The Haitian Revolution, Right?
There is a fear that the Haitian Revolution will become an example of what Black sovereignty and equality could look like. The white men who were in power in what we now call the United States at that time responded by ramping up policing, monitoring free Black communities. There's concern that alliances would emerge. And there are whole new waves of legislation limiting everything from freedom of movement to access to education.
