I saw a Guardian journalist celebrating his death. And I thought there's this weird dichotomy between her stated compassion and her complete sort of ruthlessness in a sense. You see this often with people who are extremely compassionate on the outside, they tend to be extremely ruthless towards people that they deem to be in the outgroom. This is why empathy can be a dangerous thing because if you have a lot of empathy for one certain group of people then you can justify any number of qualities against another group of people. It's very hard for me sometimes to spot them in myself. Sometimes what I do is I use a mental model where I pretend that my beliefs are other people’s beliefs
