Guatemala has one of the highest teen birth rates in Latin America. The rate of maternal mortality is also high. Abortion is legal only in cases where the mother's life is in danger, which often leads to unsafe abortion practices. Linda was so motivated to improve maternal health that she left home to study medicine.
