Social Status Shift, Right?
In Western developed countries, it's a narrative that your status is going to change over time because of this. In Eastern Oregon, the most popular guys in my school were athletes. Most of them are average in terms of their cognitive abilities. And so they're doing okay, but professionally, you know, it's nothing to shout home about. But then you have other people who are making a much bigger impact on the world, who didn't get as good at those things that were valued in high school.
