The Church Should Not Get Out of the Civil Marriage Business

There's no, to my way of thinking when it comes to marriage, no clean and neat separation of church and state. If we want to end confusion over terms and everything the state should stop calling what they do marriage. I know that people who live and die by Augustine City of God and all this stuff have some very high flute and ideas about the necessity and purpose of the secular authority. To my mind when the civil authority has proven itself so incapable of conforming to or recognizing even the basics of natural law we should be encouraging them just not to play in that pool anymore.
