Mass Formation Psychosis
Theory of mass formation psychosis is that people are irrational, and it's easy to get em worked up about anything. The idea is that when people are afraid, let's say there's a totalitarian government, they will grab on to whatever the leaders tell them because they need some kind of certainty and confidence. This can be exasperated, says the theory, by social isolation.
