Can a Tapestry Book Really Fail?

A tapestry book really does require each character to be bringing something unique beyond just who the character is or where they are. If there are characters where there isn't a big difference in what they bring into the story, i think that's when the tapestry structure an fail. It's better to have those characters sort of grouped together so that you're experiencing a bunch of cool characters at once.
