The Unique Claim to Penal Substitution
Penal substitution is a theory that says god takes on the legal responsibilities for all humanity's sins in order to assuage his wrath. There are several unique claims to penal substitution, depending on who you're talking to and how they're working out the theory. The idea of representationalism tends to attract what is called the legal fiction objection. On penal substitution, the kind of justice that's being satisfied specifically, is penal in nature or retributive in nature. And when it comes to atonement, i guess im a bit lost here. Because am not fully grasping this public private distinction like i can understand?
