Children Cry More When They Wake Up Behind the Couch

Children don't have object permanence. As soon as you leave the room, you're gone. You've disappeared. That's why they find pekaboo so incredibly amusing. Loud noises cause children to startle. We need to let the child know that sometimes loud noises are going to happen and will help themselves soothe.
