I think there was so much shame and stigma attached to it especially for really high-performing women. We walk around feeling this huge sense of responsibility about anything that ails us whether it's infertility like I had cancer. And mental health is the same way of like what am I choosing that is wrong. Sometimes you really have to sit down and be like these kind of thinking is really bonkers.
Aminatou Sow has been on your airwaves since 2014. An early pioneer of podcasts, Aminatou co-hosts the hugely popular Call Your Girlfriend, where she tackles everything from marriage to toppling the patriarchy. Join us on this week's UnStyled, where Aminatou discusses chronic illness & menopause, her own recovery from cancer, and how a scare with her physical health ultimately impacted her emotional and mental health. Aminatou came to realize that friends will always be there to see her through, and it's that that led to her next project, with her creative soulmate and best friend: a book on what she calls "life's main course"...friendship.
