I think there's a balance between things that are hitting a kind of plane to lamenty place and things that are just out and out joyous. Seku Kota who plays this 22 string Senegalese harp, the chora, and is from this great aristocracy as it were a generational aristocracy of chora plays in Senegal. He has set J and J is Joy. If I ever feel sad I'm just going to think back to the look on Seku's face as he makes music because it's fabulous. The idea of the J is a forest maker doing the work. Even as we're cutting trees down it's busy planting plant.
