The dutch leaders in batavia had a lot more at stake with their east indies enterprise than what was being fought over in westborneo. They were very weary of any indonesian coxingas rising to the fore to lead the people in expelling the dutch. On the eve of the so called gungse wars, there were essentially three main contenders whom the dutch sought to dominate.
