CHAPTER

The Five Second Round From the European Trauma Course

In the pre-hospital setting, there is an awful lot of information that we can draw upon as we arrive on scene. We want to start asking questions even before our handover has started. The CABC approach aims to rule out immediate life-threatening conditions such as complete airway occlusion and massive external hemorrhage. If there are any life-threatening issues raised during this five second round, then they're verbalised to the team, and then the handover isn't started.
