The Roman Academy is almost entirely subsidized by the popes. A good deal of the philosophy that's generated in Rome goes towards justifying its status as a Christian capital. Why God always meant for this religion that began in the Holy Land to end up in Italy all of that has to be justified and so there's a vested interest among the popes themselves and among the humanists to say why they are where they are and why this is of crucial importance.
