The Welfare Queen

The myth of the welfare queen seemed to prove what a growing number of lawmakers believed, that welfare made people dependent. In 1996, President Clinton dismantled the aid to families with dependent children and replaced it with TANF. The new bill restores America's basic bargain of providing opportunity and demanding in return responsibility.
