The quality of the mix itself is what's consistent, not the mix itself. A lot of times when i'm mastering for bob, it's all about micro changes. Those micro changes are really just presence changes. Usually his mixes are on point all the way. They just might need a tiny little touch, if anything. And that's kind of the good thing. Mastering engineer, many times over, is more about getting the record to translate, not about reinventing the mix.
