Women in the Crusades - Are They Competent?
Do we need to look at them as victims of these battles and wars or sieges going on? There are women inside these cities who are deeply afflicted by all of these things. I guess the big juicy meaty bit here is women being involved in the military aspects of the crusades. Yes, they've evolved at every level. They don't become involved as competence except an emergency situations or because something unexpected has arisen. For example, I mentioned the Queen of France Margaret of France having to defend the city of Damietta, which the crusade of Louis IX had captured.
