The Divide Between the Political and the Social Question
Workers and artisans were motivated not by political grievances, but by social grievances. They didn't care about police surveillance, they cared about bread being too expensive and machines that were putting them out of work. So the gulf between the students and the liberal reformers on the one side, and the now agitated workers on the other, is an example of the divide between the political and the social question.
