The Tension at the Heart of Critique
i think everyone knows a the situation of a group of peoplea recognizing that sych essential to their identity is that this other group is really wrong. And i think tatth that that scene reminds me of that tension. The way they brought peace was by extraordinary, to our modern eyes, extraordinary brutality and violence. I mean, i live in a city right now that's got a lot of lence, a lot of brutal gun violence. So do we down on that kind of violence? The romans kept the peace by cracking down with their own violence. That's really unpalatable to our modern sensibilities,. especially for those who lean left and want to be more generous with people
