The Promise of the Lord in the Present Tense
Moses himself is indicating this. We should make this connection when it says in verse three that his mother put the child in the river and placed it by the riverbank. That would seem to prompt, and I think Moses wants us to think about it this way, his mother making an arc in which to deliver this child. She took for him a basket. That's the same word that we see back in the book of Genesis in chapter six, when the Lord instructs Noah to build an arc. So she took for him an arc made of bull rushes and dobed it with bitumen and pitch. And then really same sequence of events, whereas in the same way that Noah is
