Ethereum: A Decentralized Protocol

There's this kind of sentiment on ethereum that we already have some sort of centralization forming. Having a protocol level implementation that would allow developers to bottleneck how much funds you're taking out might not be a great look for a decentralized protocol now. They've said that if someone like a developer wants to change those limitations the user would be able to prior to that limitation change being implemented withdraw their funds so there's kind of like a stopgap measure for that but it's still somewhat controversial.
