The Importance of American Engagement in the World

The idea that a Europe of small states would be potentially a less troublesome thing for the United States was smart. A couple of things though were stupid, profoundly stupid. The failure of the internationalists to come up with a realistic and politically sustainable program for American engagement left the field open in subsequent years.
