Well fibromyalgia is a condition which is quite poorly understood and people who have this will complain of pain in their muscles and joints which is fluctuant so some days they have good days some days they have bad days when they're having a bad day it can be extremely disabling it can affect parts of their body anywhere and it also tends to be associated with other symptoms like profound fatigue and people also say they get very down unsurprisingly when they feel like this and it can rob them of their motivation and then they'll feel a bit better and then they can do a bit more and it can come on quite abruptly in people they have a fluctuating situation where they're okay one minute and they might have a really bad spell and sometimes if they do a lot they find that they then pay the price later. Now we do not understand this condition it seems to share features in common with other fatigue illnesses like chronic fatigue syndrome there appear to be more women affected than men by this but we don't know what's going on there might be in some people an infective element and there are various viruses that could do things to the way the immune system works and trigger the formation of various populations of immune cells or antibodies that might be underlying this and related conditions. In other cases there can be a psychological element to it and so at the moment people are investigating this from all those different perspectives to try to work out the best way to help people because it may be that there's a range of different conditions going on here and they're under the umbrella term that these conditions are called one particular thing they all present in a similar way but there may be different pathways that people get there they share some features in common with some aspects of post viral infection with COVID so people are looking at it from that perspective as well but at the moment we don't have definitive answers on what this
