Is the Judgment So High That You Can't Draw It?
I think it's interesting to think about how we would look at this case differently if the judgment weren't so high. It makes me think about that famous McDonald's case from the 90s, where a woman spilled hot coffee and her laugh got very extreme burns. The initial judgment was calculated, I think, to be just one day of coffee sales at McDonald's in America. And as a consequence, this woman had burns that went down to her pelvic bone - an old woman not at all at fault here.
