The now defunct Women's Sunday Mirror ran a serialised feature on Ruth after the conclusion of her trial. Like Roxy Hart and Chicago showed Ruth to be a very simple, country girl driven mad by the lights and the lifestyle of the big city. I feel like it would have almost been like people's fascination with this reading about serialised thing in their newspaper and stuff. It's like a moral fable for the time, isn't it? For women. Stay away from nightclubs, don't be a hostess, or you'll end up like Ruth Ellis. Exactly, driven mad, hoisted by her own pittard and all that.
