The key to it, not just waiting for the individual to self-identify if they're having these people find someone to reach out to. When you have had success in working through it, sharing that story really creates a connection in the people around you. And I think there's also been a fair amount of pressure from the AMA, from the Federation of State Medical Boards to say, "When individuals are caring for their mental health, no differently than their physical health"
Our physicians and expert guests will discuss practical strategies, actionable steps and evidence-based resources on how to identify those physicians and patients at-risk for suicide and connect them with the most appropriate care. Our guests include: Daniel Miller, MD, Chief of Graduate Medical Education and Behavioral Health Integration, Sun River Health; Christine Yu Moutier, MD, Chief medical officer, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; Stephen O’Connor, PhD, Chief of the Suicide Prevention Research Program, National Institute of Mental Health; Scott Pasichow, MD, MPH, Assistant EMS medical director, Southern Illinois University; Lisa K. Kearney, Phd, ABPP, Executive director, Veterans Crisis Line (VCL)Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention (OMHSP)
