The Siege of Rome

The romans were defeated by the gauls, a group of huge and painted men. The roman army was made up of lightly armed lower class soldiers. In their haste to save themselves, the fleeing soldiers made directly for the fortified capital hill, citadel. They left the walls of the city unguarded and the gates wide open. It gave free range of the city to the pursuing gauls who waited a full day before they entered the city.
