The NCAA was very strict that you cannot receive gifts, food, whatever, anything for free. There were stories over the years of UCLA football players famously being suspended games because somebody left free food on their doorstep. As TV revenues have gone up, there's been this outcry and eventual these legal proceedings to shed light on the fact that that's ridiculous.
