Some foreign security policy analysts in Moscow have increasingly begun to highlight the idea of pivoting to the global south as they're cut out of working with transatlantic community. In Putin's view NATO strategy jeopardizes that and the so-called expansion of NATO in Russia's view threatens that security. There isn't really a good understanding within Russia of what this NATO open-door policy means, says Emily Ferris.
