The Ideology of Racecraft

Slavery was not a society premised on the normality of slavery. Slavery was normal and became even more normal in part of the country but in the country as a whole it had been present from the very beginning. It wasn't yet accepted that being dependent on working for somebody else could be the status of the citizen. Most of the black slaves were released into just such a category so their class position is the way they are defined as a race.
