The Oath of Platilla

The so-called Oath of Platilla was made by an Athenian order in the 4th century BC. Herodotus doesn't make mention of it, but there is evidence that he may have left out some information. It could be a later invention to explain the very long delay in the rebuilding of the temples on the Acropolis after the war. The Greek army was encouraged by their victory over their Persian cavalry and so they felt emboldened to move their battle position westward to the plain of Plataea.
