Is There Something Going on in Your Sensory Motor System?
When i watch tennis players play tennis, i actually feel that i'm learning at some level. The goals of movements are not the movements themselves, their sensory states. Any time you um generate some action, you're generating sensory consequences to that action. And so it really is kind of the reverse way of thinking about things. As with any movement, and this is a key ah, the target for movement is really a sensory state. That's true in tennis. It's true in speech. When you move your mouth, you're not trying to implement a particular motor pattern. You're trying to reproduce the sounds of the languagethat you've learned perceptually.
