Why China Is the Largest Bilateral Lender in the World
Sri Lanka is in massive debt and interestingly if you read like the New York Times the emphasis is typically on debt to China. A majority of debt of the Sri Lankan state is actually owned by Western bankers. One of the reasons that so many states around the world have turned to China as a lender because it doesn't attach same conditions to its loans as the IMF.
