Introduction

The holiday season is upon us, so maybe, just maybe, you won't disappoint me too badly today when I ask what's new and exciting in your world this week. People frequently ask me to give lectures on the state of the economy, which, as you can imagine, generally is bad news. Kind of as a way to bolster people's spirits at the end, I point to ways that we can fix our fiscal problems. One of them is a wildcard: technological innovation.
