In those days the popular newspaper colonists were Mike Royco, Jimmy Breslin and Pete Hamill they always channeled this sort of scorn of the average reader for the hoity-toity sometimes corrupt all-dealing elites. They tended to be Irishmen or whatever you know they kind of resembled cops in some ways in those days a lot of them were like sons of cops right right rightThey were all streetwise you couldn't really speak to the readership of these papers without at least pretending to be a guy who had drinks with the detectives and hung out with the gangsters and so on well certainly in the case of Jimmy Breslins there was no pretending going on.
