The History of the USS Akron
The USS Akron was commissioned as a Navy vessel on October 27, 1931. The airship spent more than 300 hours in flight over the course of just a few weeks following its christening. On January 9, 1932, the Zeppelin took part in a search exercise that showed its endurance and its capabilities as a search vessel.
