How Does Gesso Linked to Learning Mathematics?

A lot of the way we think about abstract things is by relating them to more concrete things that we understand better. Other psychologist, susan gelman, who's done a lot of work on gesture and how people use it when they're thinking about mathematics or stuff like that. She's got a lot of interesting studies where she shows things like, you can predict, for instance, how ready a child is to learn a concept by looking at the gestures they're making as they're talking about the relevant information. I'm very interested in more advanced mathematical concepts, but one of the problems there is getting enough subjects learning these things  so it's harder to investigate those kind of topics.
