The temple was the place where god had set his me in jerusalem, in that temple with the ark of the covenant. The priests going in there make sacrifices, animal sacrifices, to picture really what jesus was going to do by dying in place of the worshipper. And their blood was shed to take away their sin in this temple. Only one priest was allowed to go into the very holy of holies int ter of the temple only once a year.
