The History of Valentine's Day
In 496 AD, the pagan feast of Lupacalia was banned and replaced with Feast of St. Valentine. But it wasn't immediately a celebration of love and romance at all. Many historians believe that the association with love and romance was first put forward by the English poet Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century. Aristocrats started to write love letters to each other and as the idea of February the 14th being a celebration ofLove continued to grow,. this became a more and more important part of European culture.
