Miss magazine emerged from a new wave of feminism, the second wave, which had begun in 19 63 with betty fridan's book, the feminine mistake. During the fifties, housewife friends would tell her that while they were doing the cooking and the ironing, they just didn't feel alive. They had lost the ability to concentrate and had a strange feeling of desperation. And the cures society was offering, like magazine articles called forty eight ways to make your marriage more exciting, weren't helping at all.
