The Politics of Identity in Northern Ireland

I'm always struck by these labels of identity and how they seem to have shifted over time. And I think it's probably a mixture of the two? Well, I guess this must be mirrored if you're aIf you're a Catholic in the east of the country and there were sectarian responses. There wasn't that response and that's why I'm a Catholic right? If you're in the majority over in, I don't know, East Belfast, then you feel empowered to go and be sectarian in response. But for manna people on the whole, are very genuine, neighborly people. It was just such a shock to everybody that this could be happening in their own area.
