How Does the Type of Writer Change Over the Decades?

In all the time you've taught, are the students different now than they were back when you were starting to teach creative writing? There's a certain sort of writer who is self selected. We never have any students in our classes who don't want to be there. But what has changed noticeably is that we have now ethnic American young people who are first, second or third generation of immigrants.
