What Does Jesus' Death Accomplish?

The death of Jesus for Matthew accomplishes both of those things. It establishes this new covenant, and it's the inauguration of the eschaton breaking in. And I think he really emphasizes that through these curious signs of the tombs being opened and the bodies of the saints coming out. This is a little foretaste of the general resurrection at the end of time,. You get a little window into that.
