EOLIA - Is There an Absolute Risk of 20% in ECMO?

The mortality difference was not statistically significant. The investigators had expected a mortality rate of 60% in the control group, 40% in the ECMO group. And unfortunately, the trial was stopped early due to their predefined stopping criteria that that set to stop if they were unlikely to attain a definitive result. So my interpretation of EOLIA is that ECMO does likely lower mortality compared to current best practices, but it's unclear how large that benefit is.
