The Deep History of Ourselves
Joseph Ladou's new book The Deep History of Ourselves, the 4 billion year story of how we got conscious brains was released in late August 2019. It provides a comprehensive overview both of his work and the evolution of human consciousness. We didn't talk directly about the theories of consciousness during this interview because our focus was on Ladou's position regarding emotions. In the book he lists 20 current theories and explains why he favors the category of theory known as higher order representations.
