I wonder if part of what's going on is that we're very persuaded by the things we ourselves say. And so we're like, Oh, how do we get someone else to agree with me? Like I'm going to give them my beliefs and my facts because those are clearly right. And they're going to be persuaded. It's sort of a failure to model how different other people's minds are.
