The Rise and Fall of Van Allen
In 1928, Van Allen was working on plans for the previous owner of that plot. Walter Chrysler decided to hire him to develop that plan into what would become the Chrysler Building. Meanwhile, downtown at 40 Wall Street, Van Allen's ex-partner, Craig Severns, was building the Manhattan Company Building.
