The Importance of Priestly Celibacy

Cardinal John Franco-Girdlanda and Father Emilio Husto have said celibacy is not an accident of priestly life. The ordained minister unites himself to the church and surrenders himself totally to serving it, they say. This full self surrender is spousal in its form and it implies a type of exclusivity. Forgoing marriage is not about unburdening ourselves from the demands of family life, so that we can have more time for our priestly duties says Pope Francis.
