In common between the two notions is the blurring or playing with boundaries, like you said between internal and external between self and other. There's a not me that dwells inside me for Milner and for Winnicott it would be. I can't become me without experimenting with where I begin and you end and where you begin and I end. That's the very nature of who we are as selves is to be constantly walking that line dipping a line.
