The Story of Um Kothun and Ahmad Al-Makhti
By her late teens, Un Kothun had been introduced to a new wealthy benefactor by the name of Amin Al-Makhti. Her father was dead set against it and tried to stop her from moving to Cairo. She worked with poet Ahmad Blami who wrote If I Were To Forgive which put her on the map. Um Kothun: "Ahmad's poetry inspired my singing style"
